Our Railroads

While trucking is often economical for shorter distance movement, shipping by rail is the most efficient mode of long haul shipping. Chesapeake & Delaware, LLC encompasses five railroads: the Dover & Delaware River (DD), the Dover & Rockway River (DRRV), the Delaware & Raritan River (DRR), the Black River & Western (BRW), and the Belvidere & Delaware (BDRV).

Dover & Delaware River (DD)

The Dover and Delaware River Railroad (DD) began operation in 2019 and operates on 109 miles of Norfolk Southern (NS) lines and trackage rights over NJ Transit. Working closely with sister railroad Dover and Rockaway River Railroad (DRRV), DD serves freight shippers across New Jersey. DD is a handling rail line and interchanges with NS at Phillipsburg (DD), NJ.

Dover & Rockaway River (DRRV)

The Dover and Rockaway River Railroad (DRRV) was formed in 2017 to operate the three rail lines owned by Morris County. DRRV provides freight rail service to Succasunna, Dover, Rockaway, Kenvil, and the surrounding region.

Delaware & Raritan River (DRR)

Starting July 1, 2022, the Chesapeake & Delaware LLC began operations over the formerly Conrail operated Southern and Freehold branches. Currently, the Southern branch originates in Red Bank, NJ where cars are interchanged with Conrail via NJ Transit. The line operates between Red Bank and Lakewood serving several customers. The Freehold branch originates in Jamesburg, NJ where cars are interchanged with Conrail via the Amboy Secondary.

Black River & Western (BRW)

The Black River and Western Railroad (BRW) has served Hunterdon County, New Jersey, since acquiring former-Penn Central and Jersey Central Lines in the 1970s. BRW is a switching carrier and connects with NS in Three Bridges, NJ.

Belvidere & Delaware River (BDRV)

The Belvidere and Delaware River Railway (BDRV) was formed in 1995 to serve industrial customers in the Phillipsburg area of Northwestern NJ. BDRV is a handling line partner and interchanges with NS in Phillipsburg (BDRV), NJ.
